Teacher Training in Singapore |
Foreign students who wish to pursue a career as a Teacher in Singapore Schools and Colleges have to undergo training at the National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore. The NIE is located within the campus of the Nanyang Technological Institute (NTU).
NIE offers a postgraduate teacher preparation program leading to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). This program aims to train university graduates to become primary or secondary school teachers in Singapore. It is a 1-year program except for those specializing in the two-year PGDE in Physical Education.

| The PGDE prepares graduates for a challenging and enriching teaching career. The postgraduate diploma equips fresh teachers with the requisite knowledge and skills required in order to integrate themselves as effective members of Singapore's vibrant knowledge community. |

There are two ways to apply for the PGDE. One can either apply through the MOE and enroll with the course as its sponsored candidate; or the international aspirant may chose to apply directly to the NIE and join the course as a 'full fee paying candidate'. All details are available at the National Institute of Education's website www.nie.edu.sg. |
