Christmas Music Songs in Singapore

The egalitarian and eclectic festival of Christmas is knocking on the doors and the entire world is gearing up to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christmas on 25th December 2013 and the island state of Singapore is no exception. The city-state of Singapore decks up every year for celebrating Yuletide in the true spirit. 25th December is a public holiday in Singapore and almost everybody from locals to tourists irrespective of caste, creed, sex or religion gets together to participate in the ceremonies, programs and events that are held in different parts of the city.

The shopping districts in Orchard Road, Scotts Road, Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade and Sentosa Island, and all other prominent areas take on a festive look as light shows and displays are held for extended periods. Shopping malls and outlets selling all kinds of items entice shoppers with attractive discounts. However, for many people the festival spirit seems to be missing if they cannot gyrate to the beats of classical and modern-day Christmas songs.

Every Christmas in Singapore sees a fierce competition amongst locally bred independent musicians and music groups belting out Yuletide songs. Singaporeans and tourists from all corners of the world congregate in large numbers to listen to the music songs and numbers. The proceeds from the performances are donated to different charitable institutions in Singapore. Patrick Chng, a well known music producer of Singapore compiled a list of the most popular Christmas numbers that was released as a CD titled 'Christmas in Singapore' in 2012. The lyrics were set by home-bred musicians and the songs were sung by local singers, many of whom are household names in the country. Here's a rundown of the popular numbers.

Christmas in Singapore CD has 14 numbers of which 11 are from the original soundtrack. The original numbers have been sung by well-known artistes and music groups like 'The Ukulele Girls', 'Lunarin', 'Natalie Hiong', Rachael Teo, Shelves, Deon, Jonathan Meur,  and 'Another Sunday Afternoon'. The CD is replete with peppy and lilting tracks like 'Give Me Love on Christmas Day' 'Christmas Without You', December By the Isle of You', and 'Xmas Dream'. These songs have been sung respectively by 'The Lilac Saints and Friends', Natalie Hiong, Jonathan Meur, and Kevin Mathews.

Some tracks were commercially released much before the Yuletide season for instance the numbers 'Xmas Without You' and 'This Christmas' sung respectively by Don Richmond and Jack & Rai. Lunarin came up with an innovative version of the Christmas classic 'We Three Kings'. Songs by some guest musicians like Joe Ng and Olivia Ong have also received rave reviews. Patrick Chng while choosing the numbers gave due credence to their mass appeal.

Some of the other songs featuring in the CD are 'Silent Night' by Sam Willows, 'Christmas Time' by Rachel Teo, and 'A Different Christmas' by Shelves. 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' is a sonorous duet sung to perfection by Inch Chua and Charlie Lim. All takings from the CD sales will be given to the charitable institution founded by Patrick Chng and two of his associates-the 'Rare Disorders Society'.
