Singapore Christmas Shopping

Singapore turns into a goldmine for the shopping crowd during Christmas as shopping malls, standalone shops and outlets intensely compete with each other to offer irresistible discounts and tantalizing promotions. The fact that shoppers get to claim tax-exemption on most of their purchases (under certain specified conditions) makes Singapore one of the most sought after shopping destinations during Christmas. Presented below are some pop-up shopping festivals and fairs held during the Yuletide season where you can head to and shop till you drop.

1. Christmas Markets Organized by Public Gardens
Singaporeans are flocking to the 16th floor of the Tripleone Somerset building for shopping at leisure from 4 back-to-back Christmas markets. You can shop for anything from toys to apparels and from home decor to cookware. Don’t miss out on shopping for local handicrafts which are incredibly exquisite and exclusive. The markets will fold up on 15th December, 2013.

2. Rochester Mall: Twelfth Flea
You’ll surely find something for all your near and dear ones at the ‘Twelfth Flea’ Christmas shopping festival held at the Rochester Mall. It’s a flea market all right but you get to pick from some of the best quality products. And yes, you can shop for everything or anything under $20.00. The shopping carnival goes underway on 21st and 22nd December, 2013.

3. Christmas Shopping Gala at the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes
Go into a shopping overdrive at the Marina Bay Sands Shoppes this festive season. You’ll be having plenty of activities to catch up with at the Marina Bay Sands precincts-taking advantage of promotions at ‘The Shoppes’, and dining in high-end restaurants dishing out sumptuous Christmas delicacies and treats. Art exhibitions, colourful ceremonies and live shows are staged almost everyday starting from 15th November and ending on 25th December.

The ice-skating rink becomes a candy zone for the kids and toddlers as the entire area is replete with Christmas trees complete with presents, sledges drawn by reindeers with Santa Claus at the helm. You’ll have the chance to win shopping coupons worth up to S $60,000 if you buy items worth at least S$ 250 at The Shoppes. You’re also handed a shopping coupon worth S$20 if you happen to be one of the first 50 customers on any day from 15th November-25th December. You can shop till 11 p.m. from Sundays through Thursdays and till midnight on rest of the days. Most stores offer rebates up to 50% and some outlets give discounts even up to 80%.

4. Tax-exempted Shopping

If you spend a minimum specified amount on shopping from 17th November-6th January, you’ll be entitled to claim a tax reimbursement and also look forward to winning a round-trip to Singapore. To be eligible, you’ll have to spend at least S$100 using your credit card (MasterCard) or else you’ll have to spend at least S$200 if you’re using any other mode of payment. Winner of the sweepstake will get to stay in Marina Bay Sands for two nights after flying in to Singapore on an economy-class ticket. If you’re a Visa cardholder, you’ll have the opportunity to win shopping coupons worth S$1000 at select shopping malls in Orchard Road.
