Ideas for Decorating your Home this Deepavali
You can think of decorating your house in several ways on the auspicious occasion of Deepavali. Diwali decoration ideas may include diyas, candles, electric lights and lamps, idols of Gods and Goddesses, rangolis, torans and fresh flowers. Just check them out.
  • Diwali Diyas and Candles: You can beautifully decorate your house this Diwali with small oil lamps made of clay. Called as diyas, these oil lamps are an integral part of Deepavali celebrations. Nowadays, diyas of several shapes, sizes and patterns are available in the market. You can place rows of diyas at the entrance of your house and the surrounding area to guide Goddess Lakshmi when she visits your house to bless you and your family members with loads of success. Moreover, you can use cylindrical candles for your balcony, windowsill as well as staircase.
  • Deepavali Electric Lights and Lamps: As part of Deepavali decoration ideas, you can also decorate your house with several rows of electric lights that are available these days in different colors. You can hang these lights from your balcony and can even use them to decorate the entrance of your house and the place where Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha will be worshipped.
  • Idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi: On this auspicious day of Deepavali, the idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped. The idols are at first cleaned and then they are ornamented with pearls as well as with gold and silver ornaments. Garlands made of fresh flowers are also used for decorating these idols. These idols are then worshipped very religiously to bring peace, happiness and wealth within the family.
  • Rangolis: You can draw rangolis at the entrance of your house to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. You can also draw rangolis in the living room or in the courtyard of your house. The rangoli designs are usually made of dry colors. However, the patterns can also be done by making use of turmeric paste, paste of rice grains, chalk or vermilion powder.
  • Torans: You can also decorate your house this Diwali with torans (hangings). You can use a mango leaf toran for the main door of your house since these leaves are regarded as auspicious for this occasion. You can also think of hanging “Shubh Laabh” torans at the door. Torans made of fresh flowers can also be used to decorate the entire house.
  • Flowers: Spread the rich aroma of flowers at each and every corner of your house on this Diwali by decorating your house with fresh flowers.
    Regarding the type of flower, you can think of using jasmine, lilies, rose, marigold and exotic flowers like carnations and orchids.
