Diwali Rangoli Designs

Diwali is regarded as the festival of lights and it is celebrated in different parts of the world with great gusto. People of all ages, be it kids, youth or older people, take part in Diwali celebration every year and burst firecrackers to mark the victory of good over evil

A few days before Diwali, people start cleaning their houses and decorate them beautifully with diyas, electric lights and lamps, aroma candles, torans, fresh flowers and also make beautiful rangolis.

It is a tradition among the Indians to draw rangolis on festivals and also on several other occasions. Rangoli, the art of drawing figures and images on the floor, has become an integral part of the entire Deepavali festival.

The main objective of drawing a rangoli at the entrance of our house is to welcome Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, to endow us with peace, prosperity and happiness.
Patterns of Rangoli Designs
There are several Diwali rangoli designs and these designs are usually passed on from one generation to another and some of these designs are more than hundred years old. Although these designs differ greatly from one another, the main idea is to please Goddess Lakshmi so that she will bestow us with peace, happiness, wealth and prosperity.

Usually, the Diwali rangoli designs are geometrical in shape and geometrical figures such as triangles, squares, circles, semi-circles, curves, rectangles and ovals are used. You can further augment the beauty of your rangoli pattern by making use of some decorative items like lighted diyas, colored sand, colored rice grains, colorful petals of flowers and leaves, and colorful pulses. With some beautiful color combinations, rangoli makes a superb piece of art.

Some of the common Diwali rangoli themes include the following:
  • Shree
  • Mangal Kalash
  • Rising Sun
  • Moon
  • Chakra
  • Om
  • Creepers
  • Birds
  • Elephants
  • A lighted diya
  • Swastik Symbol
  • Dancing figures
  • Leaves of Ashoka Tree
  • Lotus and other flowers
  • Footsteps of Goddess Lakshmi entering our house
