Singapore New Year Fireworks

If you’re still in two minds about selecting a perfect destination where you can celebrate New Year’s Eve in style and with characteristic flourish then choose Singapore. You’ll be giving yourself a pat on the back for planning a trip to this diminutive island-state tucked away in South-East Asia.

Singapore is the ultimate partying spot for a large majority of tourists from all over the world. Of all the major draws that attract travellers and revellers from far and wide, the extravagant and impressive fireworks displays that illuminate the Singapore skyline, is surely the top draw. Following is a listing of the

1. Marina Bay

The Marina Bay Sands precinct is the most sought-after area for observing the fireworks celebrations. Close to three lakh people assemble every year on the night of 31st December at several adjacent spots to watch the displays. Although the show does not start before midnight, you’ll need to be present at any of the prominent viewing zones at least by 9.30 p.m. if you want to watch the displays without any obstruction.

All the key observation spots get immensely crowded by 10 p.m. The fireworks are launched from the Arts & Science Museum close to Bayfront Avenue and you can take your position at any of the following spots for getting a 360 degree view:-

  • Helix Bridge-This overpass with its helical steelwork offers an altogether different viewing perspective. For getting an unhindered view, you can move over to any of the several surrounding platforms connected with the bridge.
  • Marina Barrage-If you prefer seclusion and privacy while you gaze at the fireworks, you should be on the Marina Barrage.
  • Marina Bay Waterfront Causeway-This newly constructed wooden walkway is located in the heart of Marina Bay Sands. Walk up to the periphery for an immaculate view.
  • Clifford Pier-This place offers good views but is not big enough to hold a large crowd.
  • Merlion Park-This is the spot you should be heading to if you want to pick up the loud crackling sounds of the fireworks. Also the best place to freeze some picturesque shots. However, you’ll need to be a deft photographer to capture a full view.
  • The Esplanade Waterfront Boulevard-An excellent spot to catch complete views.
  • The Esplanade Bridge-The Esplanade Bridge straddles the Queen Elizabeth walk. Before you press on the shutter, make sure that the Merlion, Clifford Pier, Helix Bridge, Marina Barrage and the MB Sands causeway have been encapsulated in the lens.
