Singapore has a thriving arts industry and has some of the world's best performing art venues such as the DBS Arts centre - home of Singapore Repertory Theatre, Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay and The Substation, University Cultural Centre, Victoria Concert Hall, Singapore Chinese Orchestra Concert Hall and the Singapore Lyric Theatre.
The National Arts Council of Singapore is responsible for promoting Singapore's creative arts not only in Singapore but also beyond. NAC manages the day-to-day operations and hiring of the Victoria Theatre, Kallang Theatre and Drama Centre in Singapore. Under the Arts Housing Scheme, the Council manages development projects, identifying and converting old buildings into suitable housing for arts use. The Council also presents various awards at the national level every year, to recognize artistic excellence and contributions to the promotion and development of the arts in Singapore. The NAC also develops international cultural agreements and offers supports to local artists to stage international events in Singapore. |
