Singapore Standardization Programme

The Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING Singapore), the national standards authority is responsible for the Standardization programme is Singapore. The Singapore Standards are recognized and printed through announcement in the Government Gazette. Thus SPRING is the accountable for governing the Singapore standardization programme. The Singapore Standardization programme concentrates on increasing and endorsing the application of certain standards in the industry. Hence Standardization in Singapore is a mutual and shared effort between the government agencies, tertiary institutions, professional bodies and the IT industry.

The Standardization programme devised by the Standardization committee encourages and supports the growth and improvement of national standards to be at par with international standards. All Singapore Standards are reevaluated once in every five years to reflect on their confirmation, revision, amendment or withdrawal. But at times Singapore Standard may also be reviewed before the set time period of five years.

The aim of Singapore Standardization Programme includes Education standards, chemical standards, Food standards, Management system standards etc and assists calculated growth, endorsement, and use of standards to fortify competitiveness at the economic and enterprise level. The objectives of the national standardization programme in Singapore are as follows:

Facilitates standardization of industry sectors to develop output and quality.
Augment market entrée for enterprises by decreasing technological hurdles to businesses and commerce through leading the standards and conformance negotiations in Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRA).
Boost security, fitness and environmental surroundings of Singapore through the improvement and application of voluntary standards and energetic support of technical policies based on standards.
Assist trade for Singapore based industries by raising national standards to international standards.
