The Supreme Court and the Subordinate Courts are the two-tier court system of Singapore judiciary. The Court of Appeal and the High Court are the two branches of the Singapore Supreme Court. Both civil and criminal appeals coming from the High Court are heard by the Court of Appeal. The High Court prosecutes those criminal cases that involve offence leading to death penalty and imprisonment for a term exceeding 10 years.

The highest appellate court in Singapore, The Court of Appeal lies at the apex of the building. The honorable Chief Justice of Singapore is considered to be the head of the judiciary. The Bench of Supreme Court comprises of the Chief Justice, the Judges of Appeal, Judges and the Judicial Commissioners of the Supreme Court. The Registrar heads the registry of Supreme Court and he is asssisted by the Deputy Registrar, Senior Assistant Registrars and Assistant Registrars in his work.
In partnership with local architectural consultants CPG Corporation the world famous architects Foster and Partners designed the architecture of the current Supreme Court of Singapore. President S R Nathan officially opened the building on 7th Jan 2006.
