Chemical and Dyes is one of the core industries of Singapore. The chemicals and dyes industry consisting mainly of petroleum, specialty chemicals and petrochemicals has gained success and prosperity from the nineties. These chemical and dyeing products have diverse range of applications in cosmetics, food, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, electronic coatings and leather industries. Being the third largest oil refinery in the world, petroleum is an important resource for the chemical industry sector of Singapore.

The Singapore Petrochemical Complex houses many chemical units with an exhaustive collection of variegated chemical products like propylene, plastics, fibers, vinyl acetate, ethylene, styrene monomer, propylene oxide and more. Some popular petrochemical industries in Singapore include Eastman Chemical Singapore,Asahikasei Tenac Singapore, POVAL Asia, Exxon Chemicals, Mitsui Bisphenol Singapore, Lonza Singapore and Singapore Aromatics Company.

Singapore is currently attracting many offshore companies to manufacture chemicals and dyes. Asahi Chemical Industry of Japan has come up to produce poly-phenyle and ether in Singapore. Faci SpA an Italian company manufacturing metal stearates has planned to set up a chemical plant in Jurong Island of Singapore. Honeywell International the renowned American chemical giant has opened its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore. The British Company Croda International has launched a chemical plant on Jurong Island to produce specialty chemicals like esters and alkoxylates.
