The Singapore Legal system is very much English in essence. And it can be divided under certain broad heads like administrative law, equity, property law, trust and tort law and contact law. These are based on the judgments of the courts of the land and some are modified by statutes. Family, Company and Criminal laws are purely statutory in nature. It is highly interesting to note that Singapore Laws are very strict and quite harsh punishments are declared even for littering and smoking in public places in order to keep the city green and clean.
Singapore Laws are framed on the basis of resources collected from Legislation, Judicial precedents and customs.
