The participants of the parade are divided into two main sections: the Guard of-Honour and the Supporting Contingents. The four Guard-of-honour contingents comprises of members belonging to the three arms of the Singapore Armed Forces. The contingents participating in the parade are dressed in their respective ceremonial uniforms. The colors party stands behind the Guard-of-honor contingents where a group of officers held the state and the regimental colors. It has been a tradition followed since a long time in the National Day parade ceremony where the Parade Regimental Sergeant Major starts the parade forming up the parade on the venue.

The Parade Commander is handed over the command of the parade once the parade gets formed up. Upon the arrival of the members of the parliament, cabinet ministers and the Prime Minister the parade presents its salute and present arms. The Parade Commander calls for a full salute only after the arrival of the President. The National Anthem is played during this time and the State Flag is hoisted. After this the President is requested to inspect the parade during which he is accompanied by the Chief of Defence Force, Chief of Staff and the Parade Commander.

The presidential 21-gun salute is also performed for the President. The President even speaks to some of the Guard-of-honor contingents before it presents a Feu-de-Joie. After the end of all these the Parade Commander seeks the permission of the President for a Parade Marchpast.
