The much bigger space of the stadium allowed more visitors to be a part of the parade.
The national stadium offers 60,000 seats but still the demands for tickets remains high every year. In order to bring the celebration more closer to the Singaporeans the government decided to celebrate the event twice at the stadium before bringing it back to the padang after every three years. Since the year 1995 it was decided that the parade would be held in padang every five years.
The padang however, offers few seats compared to the National Stadium.
