Competition Act 2004

This Act seeks to make provisions about competition and the abuse of a dominant position in the market. It also establishes the Competition Commission of Singapore.

Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act

This Act provides the legislative framework to allow consumers aggrieved by unfair practices to have recourse to civil remedies before the courts.

Consumer Protection (Trade Descriptions And Safety Requirements) Act

This Act makes provisions that prohibits misdescriptions of goods supplied in the course of trade and prescribes requirements relating to informative marking.

Hire-Purchase Act (Chapter 125) and Hire-Purchase (Amendment) Act 2004

The first Act principally regulates the form and content of hire-purchase agreements and spells out the rights and duties of parties to such agreements, while the second Act seeks to amend the Hire-Purchase Act.

Multi-level Marketing and Pyramid Selling (Prohibition) Act (Chapter 190)

This Act prohibits the registration of businesses that are designed to promote multi-level marketing schemes or pyramid selling schemes in relation to the distribution and sale of commodities and makes it unlawful for any person to promote such schemes.

Multi-level Marketing and Pyramid Selling (Excluded Schemes and Arrangements) Order 2000

MTI has enhanced the safeguards on Multi-level Marketing schemes operating in Singapore, with the aim of protecting Singaporean consumers and at the same time promoting a conducive environment for legitimate businesses.

Singapore Business Federation Act 2001

The Act legislates the formation of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) as the new apex body of the business community in Singapore. It addresses the composition of the SBF Council, the criteria for compulsory membership of companies, as well as payment of subscriptions by larger companies.


Singapore Business Federation (Exemption) Order

1) Any local company or foreign company which satisfies the Council that it did not or does not have any employee during the period specified in the first column of the Schedule shall be exempted from section 5 (1) of the Act for the year specified in the second column of the Schedule.

2) For the purposes of satisfying the Council that it did not or does not have any employee during the period specified in the first column of the Schedule, the local company or foreign company shall submit to the Council -

a) a declaration by any of its directors in such form as the Council may require stating that it did not or does not have any employee during that period; and
b) such other documents as the Council may require.
