The present statue of Sir Stamford Raffles located at Raffles Landing site is the second of its kind in Singapore. The British sculptor-poet Thomas Woolner made the bronze statue in the year 1887.

| The Governor, Sir Frederick Weld unveiled the statue on the padang on 27th June 1887. Due to the centenary celebrations of Singapore in 1919 the statue was removed from its original position to a site in front of the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall. Governor, Sir Arthur Henderson Young unveiled the statue. The statue was melted down for getting its bronze during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore. The statue was restored in the museum after the surrender of the Japanese. In the year 1946 the statue was restored to the present location.
