At the time of the Second World War, Singapore got defeated at the hands of
Japan and remained under the Japanese rule from 1942 to 1945. After the war got over Singapore once again came under the rule of the British. There came a time when it was thought that Singapore would be unified with the Federation of Malay. However the conflict that sprang up between the Alliance Party of Malaysia and the People's Action Party resulted in the separation of Singapore from Malaysia. Singapore on 9th August in the year 1965 eventually emerged as an independent republic.
After it gained Independence, Singapore had to face the most difficult times as the leaders were burdened with the task of establishing Singapore as one of the most glorious nations of the world.
