Television Singapore

There are two organizations that rule the television industry of Singapore and they are the SPH Media Works Ltd and the Media Corporation of Singapore. In the year 2004, these two companies merged together. At Singapore, television signal was for the first time transmitted in the year 1974 and the first live color programme that was broadcasted was the final match of the football world cup, in the year 1974.

The Media Corporation of Singapore is the direct successor of the companies such as the RCS and the TCS and the RCS as well as the TCS came to be known as MediaCorp Radio and MediaCorp Radio. The forerunners of the Media Corporation of Singapore were the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (SBC), Televisison Corporation of Singapore (TCS) and the Radio and Television of Singapore (RTS).

After SBC got a new name, which is Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS), it introduced three channels to the common mass, which are the Prime 12, Channel 8 and Channel 5. A total change in the television industry of Singapore witnessed the development of the Singapore Media Corporation. The government of Singapore in the year 2001 allowed the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) to try its luck in the television industry in the sense that it permitted the SPH to provide tough competition to the other companies who have associated themselves with the industry of television of Singapore.

At present, if you are in Singapore then you can view free to air television stations that are 7 in number including the Televisison Mobile Service, the digital broadcasting service, the first of its kind in Singapore and the programmes that would be broadcasted with the help of this service would be telecasted on the transit buses.

Television in Singapore covers current affairs of Singapore and also of the world, entertainment industry, sports, fashion, education, important events, highlights of the day and other kinds of news.
