When it opened in 1969, the Assyafaah Mosque was located within the restricted area of the British Naval Base and hence only Muslims working at the base could attend the mosque. But later in 1972 after the British Navy withdrew from Singapore, the mosque was opened to the public. The mosque conducts religious courses and its madrasah classes are conducted in Tamil.
