Singapore. The Disabled People's Association received official registration on the 28th of April in the year 1986. The mission of the Disabled People's Association is to help the disabled people lead a dignified and independent life. The Disabled People's Association has a team of dedicated volunteers who offer unconditional love and care to the disabled persons.
Role of the Disabled People's Association
The Disabled People's Association influences and urges the people involved in decision-making to put forward policies and to implement programs that will enable the disabled persons to mingle with the society at large.

History of the Disabled People's Association
Singapore hosted the first World Congress of the DPI or the Disabled People's International in the year 1980. Then the Disabled People's Association temporarily began to function under the Disabled People's International. Through its various organizations like the SADeaf (Singapore Association for the Deaf), the SAVH (Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped) and the HWA (Handicaps Welfare Association) spread the ideas and the ideals of the Disabled People's International.

International Affiliations of the Disabled People's Association
The Disabled People's Association is a member of the Disabled People's International. Ron Chandran Dudley was elected the very first President of the Disabled People's International in the DPA's first World Congress hosted by Singapore in the year 1980. More than four hundred and fifty delegates, hailing from fifty-two countries participated in the Disabled People's International. The Disabled People's International enjoys the 'Consultative Status' category 2 with the many UN organizations like the ILO (International Labor Organization), the WHO (World Health Organization) and the UNESCO (United Nations Economic and Social Council).
