In 1949 the Red Cross started working in Singapore on behalf of the British Red Cross Society. The Singapore Red Cross Society was formed following an Act passed by the Parliament of Singapore on April 6, 1973. The Singapore Red Cross Society is an independent organization rendering various social and humanitarian activities in Singapore. The Singapore Red Cross Society carries out humanitarian works, following the basic principles of universality, unity, voluntary service, independence, neutrality, impartiality and above all humanity.

The Singapore Red Cross is committed in upholding the dignity and value of human lives, providing succor and relief to the human-sufferings,
and always responding in cases of emergencies. The Singapore Red Cross Society carries out its humanitarian activities and social services without getting influenced by political views, religious practices, nationality, race, color or gender.

Objectives of the Singapore Red Cross Society
The objectives of the Singapore Red Cross Society are:
Providing help and co-operation in carrying out relief-operations in times of natural calamities and disasters
Providing healthcare services and taking care of the welfare of the needy, elderly, disabled and sick people
Providing voluntary services during war time to the civilian victims of war, prisoners-of-war and to the soldiers getting injured and wounded in the war

International Response and Relief Assistance
The Singapore Red Cross Society provides humanitarian and relief assistance to the victims of natural calamities and disasters by carrying out relief and reconstruction activities with the help of NGOs, governments and other sister organizations.
