Kwam Imm Temple was built on 28 May 1884 on Waterloo Street. The deity worshipped at the temple is Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy and is believed to have sheltered and protected the temple during World War II, when Singapore was bombed by the invading Japanese air force. The temple provided refuge for the sick, the wounded and the homeless at that time. In 1983, the Temple was rebuilt and enlarged to its present day size and in 2001 the temple was marked as a historic site in Singapore. |
