Singapore Science Center

The Singapore Science Center is one of the most frequently visited tourist site of Singapore. The cost of the scientific center was around S$12 million and was inaugurated in the year 1997 on the 10th of December by the Minister of Science Centre Board, Dr Toh Chin Chye. The reason of its construction was to have a center that would display the exhibits that were related to science, which were previously an integral part of the National Museum of Singapore, so that the National Museum could emerge as a museum that would display exhibits that are of great historical significance.
This idea of setting up a separate center was put forward by the Science Council of Singapore in the year 1969 and this idea got the support of the government of Singapore. The government of Singapore looked at this prospect as a step to promote the subject of science and Raymond Woo was given the charge for the construction of this science center.

The Singapore Science Center displays exhibits that are 850 in number, therefore visit this center only you if you have enough time on your hands, as viewing of the exhibits would take a few hours. The self-explanatory exhibits at this science center are displayed in such a way that it arrests the attention of the tourists and it provides an excellent learning experience for the children as well as the adults The chief highlight of this center is the five galleries that are based on themes, such as aviation, biotechnology and environment.

At the science center 7,500 square meter area has been allotted for exhibition purposes and the exhibits that are displayed at this space are associated with themes such as the social or technical development as well as economic and educational development
