Singapore has a multicultural identity. Since people from different ethnic backgrounds and different religions have lived cordially in Singapore since its inception, Singaporeans get together and celebrate all festivals with the same vigor and cheerfulness as they would celebrate their individual cultural festival.
Whether it is the Hindu festival of Diwali, Muslim festival of Hari Raya Puasa, Chinese New Year, or Christmas, all these festivals are celebrated with the same amount of happiness.
Since Christians have a fairly strong following in Singapore, Christmas celebrations are a gala event. Christmas decorations can be found along Tanglin Road, Scotts Road, Marina Bay area and Orchard Road.
A wide range of activities, including countdown parties, concerts, internationally acclaimed performances; art exhibitions, attractive shopping promotions and culinary treats take place.
Every year, there are special highlights during Christmas time - in 2005, six three-dimensional animated songbirds were released from Christmas gift boxes situated at the Scotts Junction; sound shells were installed at several locations along Orchard Road to serenade passer-bys with Christmas carols and the world's tallest artificial Christmas tree with 11, 520 artificial pine leaves, 15,000 dazzling white fairy lights, 200 rope lights, and about 500 blinking strobes was created.
So if you want to experience and enjoy Singapore's unique celebrations, make sure you are there this Christmas!
