The Singapore Mountaineering Federation (SMF) was formed in September 1993. Since its inception, SMF has been very energetically involved in instilling an interest for the sports of climbing and mountaineering among Singaporeans. Its mission is to promote and encourage these mountaineering sports in Singapore. SMF also sanctions and conducts mountaineering events in Singapore. SMF is associated and affiliated to major mountaineering organizations in the world such as the Asian Climbing Federation, United Internationale Des Associations D’Alpinisme (UIAA) and the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation. People’s Association, Outward Bound Singapore, SAFRA, Educational Institutions and local adventure and mountaineering clubs etc also have liaisons and are connected with Singapore Mountaineering Federation.
SMF also works with the mountaineering organizations of other countries such as Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Thailand which provides a distinctive partnership and opportunity for professional climbers to assess their ability against the best in the region. The latest climbing technology and know-how in climbing and mountaineering world are introduced and noted by the Federation to be at par with international standards. It also provides an opportunity to know about the existing status and demand of this game locally and at national level.
