Singapore Christmas 2008 |
Christmas celebrations in Singapore have always been memorable affair and even this year Singapore Christmas 2008 is going to be no exception. Even though there is a huge financial crisis faced globally, the Christmas spirits in this lion city have not been dampened. Christmas shopping, festivities, lighting all can be seen in all parts of Singapore and especially on the Orchard road, the Mecca of Singapore Christmas 2008.
Every year for Christmas a special color theme is chosen and it is this color that drapes the entire city during the Christmas festival. For Singapore Christmas Celebration 2008 the color theme chosen this year is of purple and silver. Apart from the color scheme, the basic theme this Christmas will be based on 'A Sweet Christmas in Singapore'. This theme will be all about the Sweet family who runs a sweet shop and lives in the Xmas town. Mr. and Mrs. Sweet with their three children and pets are the main characters to be featured on this Christmas light up.
Singapore has a unique concept on Christmas called as the 'Annual Highlight', which the biggest attention seeking highlights on Singapore Christmas. 'Christmas Light-up' that will be marking its 25years of existence has been chosen as the annual highlight for Singapore Christmas 2008. This Christmas Light up was switched on Nov 15 at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza by the president. Light up theme conceived the Dick Lee; a creative director will be featuring a colorful gumdrops ornamented landscape with giant doughnuts, candy cane street lamps and yummy houses made of cupcakes.
All along the Orchard Road and the Marina Bay a fantasy land made with the world of candy will be created. Characters of Mr. and Mrs. sweet along with their kids will appear on these streets to meet and greet visitors. Visitors will also get a chance to participate in various sweet making competitions apart from watching the demonstration of sweet making including 'Ting Ting Candy' and 'Dragon Beard', the traditional Singaporean sweets. Starting from November 28, 2008, between 7 pm to 11 pm on Friday to Sunday, the Sweet family will be out on the roads, giving free candies and posing for photographs.
Singapore Christmas 2008, apart from having a theme concept will also offer the likes of night safaris, enabling visitors to view Singapore from the Singapore Flyer in an all together new light, open top bus tour to view the Christmas light-up, around town trip on the traditional Trishaw.
