Singapore, a densely populated island nation, has well developed Rail Network that connects every point of Singapore. Compared to the other modern Railway network systems, International Rail Network in Singapore has, today, almost reached a point of non-existent. The single track railway line between Singapore Central and Kuala Lumpur which forms the International Rail Network in Singapore covers many kilometers and passes a number of destinations.

International Rail Network in Singapore has a history behind it, dating back to the times when the British colonized Singapore.

The network was primarily developed in order to transport goods from Singapore port to Kuala Lumpur and the other parts of Thailand. Having its starting point at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station, located near the Tanjong Pagar port, the rail travels via Bukit Timah over the causeway to reach Johor Bahru and then passing the Malay Peninsula through to Kuala Lumpur and other places in Thailand.

With the advent of modern railway technologies, and the connection of Kuala Lumpur and Singapore via air and expressways which could transport the goods in lesser time, the use of the International Rail Network in Singapore as a goods transport system declined giving way to it been utilized as public transport between the two countries.
Presently, the International Rail Network in Singapore is operated, and taken care of by the Keretapi Tanah Melayu transport operators, new projects are been thought of to modernize the International Railway Network, by introducing high-speed trains and making it double-tracked.

Although this railway network has been the cause of many disputes between the two countries, as Singapore wanted the moving of the track to a different place due to the shortage of land that the island nation is facing, but now these disputes have been dealt with and the plans of giving the residents of Singapore a whole new International Rail Network, that will assist them to travel between the two places within no time at all.
