Local Transport in Singapore

Singapore is a prominent Southeast Asian city and situated on the south coast of the Malay Archipelago. It is one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Major attractions of Singapore are Universal Studios Singapore, Sentosa, Little India, Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, Cruise, National Museum of Singapore, Jurong Bird Park, Orchard Road and Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Getting around Singapore is easy as it is small and the local transportation is very developed. The city is dotted with places of interest and key commercial locations. The private cars are restricted to curb pollution. Most of the residents either walk or travel on bicycles, buses, taxis, Mass Rapid Transit or Light Rail Transit (Train).

The Singapore transportation system is mostly centered on roads; the other major form of transportation is Rail. Changi Airport is the main airport of Singapore. It is a major transhipment port, too.

Singapore's Public Transport System is the best option to use to travel across the city as the majority of buses ply from morning at 6 to midnight. If visitors plan to travel using public transport; they are advised to buy a TransitLink Guide, which have the list of buses and MRT services. They can also purchase the TransitLink Card, which is a valid card to be used for both local bus services and MRT. Through buses, you would hardly have to wait and you can reach anywhere within a matter of minutes. In Singapore, the MRT has 85 stations and it covers a distance of 130km; there are 4000 buses and 330 routes; 24000 taxis and LRT with 43 stations within a periphery of 29km. If you need any advise on a particular destination, please call the TransitLink Hotline 1800 225 5663.

The Singapore Tourist Pass For Public Transport

The Singapore tourist pass facilitates unlimited access to the Singapore public transport system including LRT, MRT and normal bus services. It does not include Fast Forward, Express, Night Rider, Night Owl, Chinatown Direct and other premium bus services. These passes can be purchased both at local ticket offices and online. There are mainly three types of public transport passes viz. 1 Day Pass (local $10, overseas $20); 2 Day Pass (local $16, overseas $26); and 3 Day Pass (local $20, overseas $30).
